36" vs 24" Deep Shelving — Which Do You Need?

The 36" depth is the right choice when your inventory extends beyond what a 24" shelf can accommodate without overhanging. Large corrugated cartons, bulk totes, equipment parts, and oversized products often require the extra depth to sit securely. The 36" configuration also reduces the number of shelf levels needed for large items, which can lower your total cost per storage position. If your inventory is predominantly standard carton sizes or small parts, our 24" deep shelving may provide a better space-to-capacity ratio.

Storage Capacity Planning

When planning your shelving layout, account for a minimum 3-inch clearance above your tallest item per shelf level, and a minimum 18-inch clearance below the ceiling or sprinkler heads per Ontario fire code requirements.
